The use of heparinization to prevent arterial thrombosis after percutaneous cardiac catheterization in children.

چکیده
Thrombosis at the site of arterial puncture is a common and serious complication of percutaneous cardiac catheterization in children. A double-blind study was therefore designed to test the efficacy of heparin administered during catheterization in reducing this complication. One hundred and sixty-one unselected children over one year of age were studied. Prior to catheterization, the pulse amplitudes were measured in both legs using a Pulse Volume Recorder (a standardized oscillometer). Immediately after arterial cannulation, heparin, 1 mg/kg, or a placebo was administered. On the morning following catheterization, the pulse amplitude in both legs was remeasured and a pulse volume index calculated using the uncatheterized leg as a control. Patients in whom the catheterized leg was cold, with poor capillary filling and absent arterial pulses four hours after the completion of catheterization, were started on intravenous infusion of heparin. متن کاملExperience with systemic heparinization during cardiac catheterization by brachial arteriotomy.
Experience with systemic heparinization during cardiac catheterization by brachial arteriotomy has been investigated by a prospective study. In 253 catheterizations no complications attributable to heparinization occurred. The incidence of impaired (2 4%) and absent (i *6%) radial pulses after catheterization was lower than in some series. The majority ofcomplications were related to local trau...

OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy of fibrinolytic therapy with tissue plasminogen activator (alteplase) in infants and children with arterial thrombosis after cardiac catheterisation. DESIGN Use of alteplase (Actilyse) in a protocol with prospective data collection. Alteplase was administered to infants and children with arterial thrombosis after cardiac catheterisation. A dose of 0.5 mg/kg...
متن کاملThrombin formation and effect of unfractionated heparin during pediatric cardiac catheterization.
OBJECTIVES To assess the strength of thrombin formation and determine the effects of unfractionated heparin (UFH) in children during cardiac catheterization. BACKGROUND UFH reduces the thrombotic risk related to catheterization but the effects of UFH on the coagulation system in children, and proper monitoring of UFH remain unclear. METHODS We studied 42 patients aged 3-12 years undergoing ...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of Portal Vein Thrombosis in Children under 3 Years Old with History of Neonatal Umbilical Vein Catheterization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Background Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is one of the most common causes of extrahepatic portal hypertension in children, which may follow neonatal umbilical vein catheterization. The incidence rates of catheter-related PVT, in infants and children vary in different studies. This study aimed to determine PVT incidence in the children under 3 years old with a history of neonatal umbilical vein c...
